Ancient Sarcophagi, Platæa, 1829


The Scottish painter Hugh William Williams visited Greece in 1818 and produced many remarkable views of the country’s classical remains as they then appeared, just a few years before the War of Independence. The images were published in book form between 1827 and 1829 and were an important contribution to the popularity of Classical Greek art at that time.
